Took my family of five here for an extended weekend. We got a cottage which had a plenty of room for everyone, air conditioner, toilet, shower, microwave, coffee maker, fire ring and basic cooking utensils. Over all I'd rate the cottage itself nice, my only complaint would be the very firm mattress my wife and I had, which could be remedied with a mattress topper next time.
Lake is full of algae so can't really go in and swim. Rather fishing and boating...
I have been coming to this campground since I was a baby. I have never had any problems with the staff or anyone before. Its always been a fun place to go. My opinion has changed a bit after this weekend. First my wife was treated rudely by staff because she had out 3 year old on her lap while driving the cart. Completely understandable and my wife was apologetic and the staff member was still being hostile. Then after driving around myself for the entire weekend I get harassed by "the property manager." I've never met such unfriendly staff like that before. She accused me of driving faster then the posted speed limit. I replied by saying there is no way for me to judge my speed to know I'm going 5 mph. She responded very condescendingly by saying, " this is what it looks like going 5 mph," and drove in front of us. I followed and thinking the ordeal was over continued in the direction of or campsite. She( property manager) turned around and stopped me again. Now I have my wife's grandma, my 3 year old next to me, my brother in law and his friend. Then she tells me that she can take or cart away and not give us our deposit back but she doesn't want to do that. She told me the reason that they have this rule is because there are kids around. To which I responded, " yep I have 2 of my own." I also said that I assumed that the carts are controlled to only go that fast. that's why I didn't think I was going very fast to begin with. She said unfortunately they couldn't get them to go that slow. Long story short, the way she handled the situation was ridiculous. Not to mention no one had said a word do me me the entire time I was there. I understand she was doing her job but she made me rethink my camping destinations in the future.
I do plan on returning as we had an over all very good experience, but if I'm giving an honest review something could be improved. The mini golf area could use alot of TLC. Many of the holes were falling apart which made them near impossible to play, plus there is practically no light for night time play. Basketball area wasn't much too speak of, I was surprised to see people actually trying to use it as it looked to be falling down and no lines painted. Afew of the coin operated games and such needed help or replacing, just out of order and wasting space. The general store though offered most needed goods it lacked food separate from the pizza subs and ice cream. Perhaps even a vending machine with additional options.
The grounds and staff were very nice for the most part. Everyone was friendly and understanding, the park itself is clean and pretty well maintained. Pool is a great luxury and being on a good sized lake I'd suggest a boat. We visited during a Christmas in July themed week, so the park had events too match and seasonal patrons went all out decorating... Very fun.
Over all we really did enjoy our stay, I believe with some additional attention to these things and things like this that Jellystone in Fremont could really shine.
I must say for coming to this campground all my child hood to the present the staff has done so much to improve it. Every year it gets better and better. Yes, they have rules in place but only to keep people safe. When you check in you're well aware of the rules a head of time. :) Plenty for kids to do and always clean!
Great pool area with water slide and wading pool for little ones. Nice little store with food, souvenirs, and other supplies. Kids liked the arcade and mining. Golf carts available to rent about $60 per day, but they go very slow 5mph. Daily activities planned throughout park (hay ride, crafts, character vusits, movies) Our cabin was nothing fancy, but it did the job and had a bathroom, shower, and sink. Only complaint was all the ants and spiders in cabin by the beds, but they probably get in under the door. It would be nice if more were done by the lake for visitors to do.
Good place for kids to play and roam around.
